While anyone can take a driving safety course, there are specific legal requirements to using a driving safety class for ticket dismissal, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. If you plan to use the course for ticket dismissal, you must first receive notice from the Texas court system that you are eligible to take a defensive driving course to dismiss the ticket. You will still be responsible for paying any fines and fees related to the ticket.

  2. Complete a state-approved Houston Driving Safety Course.

  3. Submit the certificate of completion to the court by the deadline set by the court.

You can only dismiss one ticket every 12 months using a defensive driving course. Check with your court if you’re unsure about eligibility.

You have 90 days from registration to complete the course, but most students finish in one day.

Texas assigns points to your license for moving violations. Completing this course can help you avoid points and keep your driving record clean.
