Texas Traffic Court Directory
Got a traffic ticket in Texas? Before you can dismiss it through a Texas defensive driving course, you'll need to contact the court listed on your citation and request permission. This directory lists 849 Texas municipal courts — with addresses, phone numbers, and email where available — so you can find yours quickly and get the process started.
Note: Court contact information can change. Always verify details with the court before mailing documents. If you spot an outdated listing, contact us and we'll update it.
How to Use This Directory
- Find your court — The court name appears on your citation. Municipal courts handle violations within city limits.
- Contact the court — Request permission to take a defensive driving course before your appearance date.
- Enroll in your course — Once approved, complete a TDLR-approved Texas defensive driving course within 90 days.
- Submit your certificate — Send your certificate to the court by the deadline and your ticket is dismissed.
Are You Eligible for Defensive Driving?
Under Texas Transportation Code §543.101, you can use a defensive driving course to dismiss one eligible traffic ticket every 12 months if:
- You hold a valid Texas driver's license (CDL holders are not eligible)
- You were not speeding 25 mph or more over the limit
- The violation did not occur in a construction zone with workers present
- The offense did not involve passing a school bus, leaving the scene, or fleeing law enforcement

This directory covers 849 Texas municipal courts across all five major regions of the state — Dallas Metro, Fort Worth and North Texas, Houston Metro, Austin and San Antonio, and West Texas and the Panhandle. It does not include Justice of the Peace courts, which are county-level courts handling violations that occur in unincorporated areas outside city limits.
My ticket says "Justice of the Peace" — where do I find that court?
JP courts are county-level and are not included in this municipal court database. Find your county’s JP court by searching “[County Name] Justice of the Peace Texas” or visiting your county’s official website.
What's the difference between a municipal court and a Justice of the Peace court?
Municipal courts handle violations that occur within city limits. Justice of the Peace courts handle violations in unincorporated areas of a county (outside city limits). Both accept TDLR-approved defensive driving for ticket dismissal.
Can I take the defensive driving course before contacting the court?
No. You must request permission from the court first and receive written approval before completing your course. Taking the course before receiving court approval may result in the certificate not being accepted.
Is The Safer Driver's course accepted by all courts in this directory?
